Semiotic Engineering
The system communicates the designer's understanding of who the users are & what they want. It's all about communication and understanding, baby!
Semiotic Engineering was proposed by Clarisse Sieckenius de Souza in the 2005, and concerns itself with the computer-mediated communication and relationship between user and designer. At interaction time, designers must be able to communicate to users how to use the symbols and signs in the computer interface to accomplish goals.

Semiotic engineering can be conducive to allowing users understand the designer's vision rather than just telling the users which button to click on the screen. This communication takes place through the designer's influence on screen layouts, shapes, text, and interactions of the interface; in essence, with a Semiotic Engineering approach to HCI, the design is not only the interface, but conveys the designer's understanding of who the users are and what they want (or need) to do, and why.
