Zoomie uses Semiotic Engineering
To support the goals of his users, Zoomie decided to change status quo, boring, static icons that were used in most smartphones, and improve them so they would display information readily to users. For example, if Zoomie got a text message from a friend, the “messaging” icon would change to show how many messages he got, who sent them, and maybe even cycle through a snippet of the messages. Borrowing ideas from Clarisse Sieckenius de Souza’s work in Semiotic Engineering, Zoomie was able to communicate to users that he understood who they were, what they desired, and that his design had taken their "communication culture" into account.
